TK Maxx to open in Wexford after objection fails

Work is expected to commence on the opening of TK Maxx after an objection to its chosen location was rejected by An Bord Pleanála.

The body, which decides on appeals relating to planning decisions, ruled that the opening of TK Maxx in Wexford would not have any adverse effects on the town.

Local businessman Nigel Hamilton, who owns the shop W.R Hamilton & Son, lodged the objection in June on the basis that he felt its chosen location would deprive the town centre of footfall.

TK Maxx, which plans on occupying the Stonebridge retail unit on Wexford’s quay, is expected to create up to 40 jobs.

Although an official opening date has not been announced, it is hoped that the store will be able to open its doors in time for Christmas.

Update 22/01/15: A spokesperson for TK Maxx has told Wexford Hub that the store is expected to open in May of 2015.
