Billy Walsh has resigned as head coach of the Irish Amateur Boxing Association’s (IABA) High Performance Unit and senior team.
The announcement comes less than a week after he guided his team to three medals at the World Amateur Boxing Championships in Qatar.
Last month, Walsh’s future with the IABA became uncertain after the organisation failed to ratify a new contract that would have kept him in Ireland.
This morning, he announced his resignation with “immediate effect,” stating that the IABA had not allowed him to continue as head coach.
He will now travel to Colorado in the United States, where he will work with the US women’s boxing team.
