Billy Walsh resigns.

Billy Walsh has resigned as the head coach of the IABA’s High Performance Unit and senior team. The announcement comes less than a week after the Wexford man guided his team to three medals at the World Amateur Boxing Championships in Qatar.

Last month, Walsh’s future with the Irish Amateur Boxing Association was cast into doubt when it emerged that the organisation had failed to ratify a new contract that would keep him in Ireland.

This morning, Walsh announced his resignation with ‘immediate effect’, stating that the IABA had not made it possible for him to continue his role as Head Coach.

Walsh will now travel to Colorado in the United States, where he will work with the USA’s women’s boxing team.
