Most music stores in Wexford Town have closed. The widespread availability of internet access made it difficult for them to compete with digital sales, streaming services such as Spotify, video websites such as YouTube, and music piracy.
Golden Discs at 12 North Main Street sells CDs, vinyl records, DVDs, turntables, headphones, speakers, gaming products, books, and music merchandise. It opened in November 2017.
Tesco Extra on Distillery Road also stocks a limited selection of CDs.
Hobby Horse Records, which sells second-hand vinyl records, opened at Eclectic Avenue, a mall on North Main Street near The Bullring, on 14 March 2026.
Founded in 1999 by Tony Barnes, Trax Music Store on White Mill Road, Slipperygreen, sells musical instruments, books, PA equipment, lighting, and accessories.

Around 2000, the town was home to outlets such as Square Discs, BPM Records, and Whites For Music, all of which sold CDs, records, MP3 players, and posters.
In 2011, BPM Records closed its remaining stores in Wexford Town and Waterford. The chain had previously scaled down when it closed its outlets in New Ross and Mallow, County Cork.
In June 2014, Whites For Music, Wexford’s only remaining general-purpose CD store, ceased trading. The closure was a blow for the town, as the store was also the only Ticketmaster centre in the entire county.

The Xtra Vision store on North Main Street also sold CDs until it went into liquidation in January 2016. The decline of physical media also affected DVD rental stores, mirroring the challenges faced by music retailers.
South East Records operated on Peter Street but has since closed.
Minstrel Music on Peter Street sold instruments such as acoustic guitars and drum kits before closing several years ago.
