62 jobs have been lost at Wexford-based company Celtic Linen.
The job cuts will be split between its operations in Wexford Town and its logistics centres in Cork and Dublin.
The company, which employs nearly 400 people, has cited the economic downturn as a reason behind the decision.
The cuts will include 42 full-time staff members as well as 20 part-time workers.
Labour Cllr. George Lawlor spoke about the job losses:
‘It is sad to hear of any job loss. Celtic Linen have been battling for years against competitors who have access to Natural Gas as an energy source. It has put them under huge pressure. Thankfully, the installation process of Natural Gas to Celtic Linen and other industries in the town has begun and this will assist Celtic Linen in the rebuilding process and secure the company’s future.’
