Wexford County Council has become the first local authority in Ireland to provide “beach wheelchairs.”
The wheelchairs allow those with disabilities to traverse sandy terrain and are currently available to holidaymakers at the “Surf Shack” at Curracloe Beach.
While speaking on Facebook, Labour Cllr George Lawlor said the council would also introduce a beach wheelchair to Rosslare in the coming weeks.
If the pilot programme succeeds, the local authority will also make the wheelchairs available at other Blue Flag beaches in the county.
Bookings and further information about the beach wheelchairs at Curracloe are available by calling Alice on 087-751 9194.
