Murder trial of James “Chuck” Connors begins

The murder trial of Wexford man James “Chuck” Connors began at the Central Criminal Court yesterday. Connors, 29, of Rosemount in Drinagh, pleaded not guilty to the murder of 27-year-old Jason Ryan in Hollyville Heights in Wexford Town on 26 January 2012.

According to the prosecution, Mr Ryan died from stab wounds to his torso.

Gardaí at the scene

On the opening day of evidence, Wexford-based Garda Leisha Fahey told the court that when she arrived at the scene, she noticed blood on the front door of the apartment. After the victim’s girlfriend let officers into the residence, they found him lying on the couch with puncture wounds to his upper body.

He was “extremely pale” but still conscious, and complained of pain at the top of his legs despite having no wounds there. He was also having difficulty breathing.

The court heard that another garda at the scene asked him if he wanted to make a “dying declaration” about who caused the injuries, concerned that he would not survive. He refused.

The trial continues today.
