Wexford General Hospital review finds that 12 cancer cases were missed

A major patient recall and review of bowel screening cases at Wexford General Hospital has identified approximately 12 missed cancers, including the probable avoidable death of one male patient, RTÉ News has reported.

The hospital recalled approximately 600 patients after it discovered that two patients in 2014 had been diagnosed with cancer between screening examinations. They had undergone screening colonoscopies and diagnostic colonoscopies.

A consultant had raised concerns about the quality of these screenings.

The Ireland East Hospital Group stated today that the report into the events is in its final stages, and that it will send it to all referenced parties before publication.
