The Wexford County Council is currently in the process of purchasing the old Wexford Electronix site in Wexford Town. The vacant site, which juts out from the coastline, is currently in the possession of the National Asset Management Agency (NAMA).
The Wexford County Council plans to transform the plot of land into a financial services centre. Although such a development will not be occurring in the near future; it is believed that the council plans on purchasing the site before its price begins to rise.
In December of 2001, it was announced that Wexford Electronix Ltd. had gone into receivership due to a decline in sales in the capital goods market. In the months that followed, over 300 jobs were lost at the factory. Since 2002, the site in question has been lying in a vacant state.
