Unnerving footage of a car dangerously overtaking a Wexford cyclist has been doing the rounds on social media networks such as Facebook and Twitter. The video, which was uploaded by Youtube user “Wexfordphil 1”, shows a red car overtaking the cyclist at high speed, all the while giving little regard for the space that lies between them. The video was highlighted by Noel Gibbons, who is a road safety officer with the Mayo County Council.
Mr. Gibbons has called for the introduction of a law that would require motorists to give cyclists a minimum space of 1.5 metres.
