Met Éireann have issued a Status Yellow “Snow-Ice Warning” for Leinster , County Waterford and County Monaghan. The national meteorological service predicts that “snow flurries” are likely to occur and that up to 3cm of snow could fall in some areas. The warning will remain in effect from 5PM this evening until 8AM on Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, a BBC weather forecast for County Wexford has indicated that temperatures will be as low as 2-3 degrees Celsius tomorrow. The forecast has also predicted that a light snow shower could occur tomorrow morning.
Earlier today, the Wexford County Council issued a Road Safety Alert in response to the forecast. Motorists are being asked to exercise caution over the next few days, as freezing temperatures will lead to icy stretches on damp or untreated roads.
‘In icy conditions, manoeuvre gently, slow down and leave extra distance between you and the vehicle in front. Too much steering is bad. Avoid harsh braking and acceleration. Use the highest gear possible to avoid wheel spin and select a low gear when travelling downhill.’
