The retractable roof over Monck Street, which became operational in April 2024, may remain open during Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, even if it rains.
Organisers anticipate that more than 500,000 people will visit Wexford town between the 4th and 11th of August.
Many of these visitors will congregate around the town centre and Wexford Quay.
Although the situation remains “fluid”, organisers are said to be concerned about the possibility of a crowd crush if it rains.
Crowd crushes can occur when too many people move into one area at the same time.
To avoid such an incident, the roof on Monck Street may be left permanently open during the festival.
