Man discovered with €40,000 in cash.

A Polish national has been arrested at Rosslare Europort, Wexford, after he was caught carrying up to €40,000 in cash.

The man, who is in his 30s, was stopped after one of the Revenue’s sniffer dogs drew attention to him and his luggage.

The cash was seized in accordance with the Criminal Justice Act 1994 (as amended by the Proceeds of Crime Act of 2005).

A three-month detention order has been granted, which will allow for an investigation into the legality of the money.

Under the Proceeds of Crime Act of 2005, officials have the power to seize assets that are assumed to be from the proceeds of crime.
