Met Éireann has issued a number of weather warnings ahead of the arrival of “Storm Frank”, which will begin to spread across the country from midday onward. The storm is expected to bring heavy rainfall and strong southerly winds, leading to concerns of flooding, structural damage and widespread power outages.
Throughout the course of the storm, gusts of winds in County Wexford will reach as high as 100km/h. Motorists should be wary of felled trees and other debris, as well as flooding on roads – especially in rural areas. People are being advised to avoid coastal areas, as strong gale-force winds and high waves will lead to dangerous conditions.
This morning, Met Éireann updated its Status Orange alert to include County Wexford, as 40-70 mm of rain is expected to fall between this afternoon and tomorrow. This alert will stay in place until 12PM tomorrow.
Early this afternoon, wind speeds in County Wexford will begin to increase, reaching an average of 50km/h in areas along the south coast. By 5PM this evening, these strong winds will have reached all coastal areas throughout County Wexford.

Although a few patches of light rain could occur throughout the day, heavy rainfall is not expected to reach County Wexford until later this afternoon. Light rain and drizzle will begin to drift across the county in the middle of the afternoon, becoming heavier and more widespread as time wears on. By midnight, a band of heavy rain will have covered most of the country, including County Wexford. This band of heavy rain will remain over County Wexford until tomorrow afternoon.
