Church Lane

Church Lane is a small, steep laneway that runs from Wexford Town’s North Main Street to the car park at Custom House Quay. Commercial outlets along the lane at the Custom House Quay end included Argos and Supervalu. The Supervalu site was rebranded as Centra in April 2022 before closing on 22 October 2024. Argos closed permanently on 24 June 2023. Sharky’s, a fish and chips shop, remains open at the quay.

Church Lane, Wexford

The lane dates back to the 1700s. In older photographs, it appeared much longer and narrower than it is today, extending from North Main Street to Wexford Quay. At that time, many surrounding buildings had not yet been demolished to make way for the car park and commercial outlets visible today.

To the left of the lane, the side of St. Iberius Church is visible. The church is a place of worship for the Church of Ireland, and the lane’s name is likely derived from its proximity to St. Iberius. On the right side of the lane is Only Natural, a health store selling supplements and wholefoods.
