According to figures released by the Department of Transport, County Wexford has the highest rate of “drink driving” and “driving without a seat belt”.
The figures, which were published in the 21 August 2014 issue of the Farmers Journal, show that the rate of drink driving offences in County Wexford is almost double the national average.
In 2013, 629 motorists in County Wexford received penalty points for driving while over the limit, with the figure rising each month.

The chart above shows a steady rise from January 2013 to December 2013, with Gardaí handing out an average of 52 penalty points per month.
