Wexford County Council has advised residents of John Street in Wexford Town to have their homes inspected by a qualified electrician after recent water works left properties vulnerable to “lethal electrical currents.” The Wexford People reported that householders received letters informing them that their electrical earthing may no longer be effective after newer plastic water pipes were installed in the area.
The letters stated that the newer pipes do not provide an electrical earth and that existing electrical installations may have become dangerous. The council also told residents to arrange inspections at their own expense.
So far, the reaction to the letter has been angry, with many locals expressing disbelief that the council would expect residents to pay for an electrician themselves.
