Hook Lighthouse, the world’s oldest intact working lighthouse, will host its first Sunrise Tour Experience on 1 January 2018. Visitors can see the New Year dawn over the south-east coast from the lighthouse, which extends into the sea at the tip of the Hook Peninsula on Ireland’s Ancient East.
Staff will welcome visitors with Bucks Fizz before leading them on a guided tour. The experience begins as guests ascend the steps of the medieval tower, where life-sized figures bring the lighthouse’s heritage to life. Displays include the monk who first established a beacon at the site in the fifth century, alongside a figure of William Marshal, the knight who built the tower some 800 years ago. Guests also hear about life as a lightkeeper before stepping onto the top floor, where a 360-degree panorama from the outdoor balcony stretches across the south-east of Ireland.
The tour culminates in the enclosed glass watch room, offering panoramic views of the rolling seas as the sun rises. Visitors can enjoy Bucks Fizz, prosecco, tea, and coffee, along with breakfast canapés made from local produce, including Ballyhack Smokehouse smoked salmon on homemade brown bread.
Visitors can now book the New Year Sunrise Tour Experience at Hook Lighthouse. Tickets cost €45 per person. Bookings can be made by calling 00353 (0)51 397055. This is an adult-only experience. Further details are available at www.hookheritage.ie.
