Manslaughter plea rejected in Meyler case

Vincent Martin Crowe (33) is due to stand trial for the murder of Wexford man Kenny Meyler after prosecutors in Perth rejected his plea of manslaughter. Prosecutors intend to proceed with a murder charge.

Today, in the Supreme Court of Western Australia, the jury was told that Crowe had pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter.

In February 2013, Kenyon Meyler, known as Kenny, was left in a critical condition after he was stabbed in the neck at a residence on Helmsley Street, Scarborough, in Perth, Western Australia.

Six days later, Meyler died. Afterwards, Crowe’s initial charge of “intent to do grievous bodily harm” was upgraded to murder.

Opening submissions for the trial will begin tomorrow.
