Trauma services to be axed from Wexford General Hospital

According to The Sunday Business Post, Wexford General Hospital has been named as one of nine hospitals that will lose their trauma services under new plans being drawn up for the HSE.

If the plans are implemented, the hospital will no longer be able to treat patients who have been in serious life-threatening accidents such as car crashes. Minor injuries are expected to still be treated.

The Trauma Steering Group, which is currently developing a new national policy for trauma care in Ireland, is expected to propose removing trauma services from Wexford General Hospital in its upcoming report.

The report will also name trauma services at Naas, Cavan, Portiuncula, Mullingar, St. Luke’s, South Tipperary, Mercy University Hospital in Cork, and Portlaoise.

Wexford residents have opposed the plans, setting up a Facebook Page to campaign against them.
