The Ferns Tidy Towns committee has announced today that it has declared Ferns Village a ‘Poster Free Zone’ in the run up to the forthcoming General Election. The Tidy Towns committee has appealed to all Election 2016 candidates to kindly refrain from erecting election posters within the town limits and on all access roads to the village.
Mary Gethings, who is the Chairperson of Ferns Tidy Towns, said:
‘By supporting this initiative candidates are demonstrating their commitment to and respect for the residents of the village. All candidates who support the initiative will be duly acknowledged.’
‘We are appealing for their co-operation with this initiative so that the blight of election posters and associated litter becomes a thing of the past.’
‘Since launching the campaign we have had a very positive response from the election candidates and several queries from Tidy Towns groups from around the country that wish to start a similar campaign.’
‘We are the first group in Wexford to declare our village as a poster free zone.’
