A 14 year old girl who was rescued from the sea at Hook Head has passed away. The teenage scout, who was from Dublin, was with friends at Hook Head in County Wexford when a freak wave swept her into the sea.
The girl and another boy were rescued by the coastguard before being rushed to Waterford University Hospital.
This evening, Scouting Ireland stated:
“It is with deep sadness that we learned this evening of the untimely death of our fellow Venture Scout following a tragic accident at Hook Head on Sunday last. Everyone in the scouting community in Ireland is devastated by her death. On behalf of all our members, we extend our deepest sympathies to her family, who have lost a much loved daughter and sister. Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this very sad time. She had recently joined the 55th South Circular Road Scout Group and in her short time with the group she was an enthusiastic and popular member who participated fully in all activities.”
“We are providing support to the 55th South Circular Road Scout Group and in particular to the venture scouts and their leaders who were visiting Hook Head last Sunday. As you would expect, they are deeply upset and saddened by the death of their fellow scout. May she rest in peace.”
